The 2012 Reserva em Vinhas Velhas red is an old vines field blend aged for
12 months in new French oak. Showing just enough depth, this tightens with
air and finishes with some complexity of flavor, including oaky nuances at the
moment. The fruit rises above the oak and it should continue to do so. It certainly kept improving in that regard as I aired it out. Overall, it has an elegant, easy feel while managing to avoid becoming overly simple. Give this a little time to settle down and it should be a nice bargain with some structure, modest intensity and  finesse.  It  should make  a  nice  food wine,  too. Drink  now-2021.

The 2013 Escolha Maria Papoila is an un-oaked blend of 70% Loureiro and 30% Alvarinho. It comes in at 11.5% alcohol. Seeming perceptibly dry, if fruit-forward, it is fresh and fruity, an easy going summer white that tastes great and also projects a certain, interesting minerality. It is not particularly gripping or concentrated, but it is well balanced, with a juicy and very tasty finish. It should be a hit with everyone for friendly, summer sipping. Drink now-2016
